Paragon assist the introduction of electronic voting in England
E-voting consists of voting electronically using the Internet, telephone, SMS and digital television saving people time and potentially increasing the number of votes made per election. After the success of the trials in several towns in Scotland and England last year, the Government has taken the decision to test this new method on a larger scale.
The four pilot regions selected by the House of Lords to test E-voting for the June elections are North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humberside and East Midlands.
Opt2Vote, the Government’s preferred election management company for the supervision of the trial, have chosen Paragon for the printing, personalisation and fulfillment of the packs following their collaboration with last year’s councils. Says Ann Harrington, Project Manager: “Paragon were chosen for their ability to deliver an organized solution within a tight deadline and their track record in managing complicated and multi-tasked projects in a time critical manner.”
Paragon UK will manage the total supply chain, from print to dispatch, of the 5.5 million mailing packs comprising of ballot papers, an outgoing envelope and a return envelope. Says Charlie Lamont, Sales Manager: “Last year’s trials in Scotland were very successful and we are thrilled to have once again the opportunity to work on such a significant project. If this pilot test reaches the Government’s expectations, electronic voting will be implemented throughout the whole of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.”
